Getting a home insurance quote can be an afterthought when buying a new house.  In fact, many people miss out on cheaper home insurance, opting to take out a policy through their mortgage provider instead of shopping around.

Customers buying cover directly from insurers were twice as likely to shop around as those with ‘mortgage-linked’ policies (58 per cent compared to 26 per cent), often buying on the web to take advantage of insurers’ online home insurance offers.

The danger is that by not shopping around to double-check the competitiveness of their quote, people may be missing out on home insurance savings.
